While trying to find an entity reference for the £ sign in the previous article, I came across an article in The Register called Why Microsoft Makes a Complete Hash Out of C# which debates the correct name of the # symbol. The correct name is of course hash although number sign, pound, pound sign, sharp, crunch, hex, mesh, grid, crosshatch, octothorpe (or oktothorpe), flash, square, pig-pen, tictactoe, scratchmark, thud, thump, splat, grate, and reticule are also mentioned. The article concludes that Microsoft’s C# should be referred to as C Splat.
