The (admittedly sponsored removable front page of) The Advertiser (for Biggleswade, Potton, Sandy and Gamlingay) has the headline:
Kelly’s Tan and Nail Bar –
just what Sandy needs
No it isn’t! Apparently, this comment can be heard by the many clients that have visited Kelly’s Tan and Nail Bar since it recently opened
, presumably sarcastically. I can think of several things that Sandy needs more than a tan and nail bar to accompany the ridiculous proliferation of hairdressers: a decent park, some pubs north of the Market Square (although one of the town councillors recently thought it a good thing that the promised pub in the Fallowfield Estate was not now going ahead, obviously thinking it better the local roads get clogged up and people do without the rowdy pleasures of liquor, not that it would have been anything but the most middle class of pubs in Sandy), a decent grocers, a cheese shop, a rail link to Oxford, Milton Keynes, Bedford, and Cambridge, and a university library requiring an experienced, qualified, and talented cataloguer…
Can’t help you on the rail link, or the job, or the pubs, or the park. I *can* suggest that you write more about what being a cataloguer means, because I’ll bet not many people even know that it’s a job at all, and I personally think it’d be fascinating. See the sidebar at Crooked Timber (http://www.crookedtimber.org/) for more “academic webloggers” who write fascinatingly and fascinatedly about even more abstruse disciplines where I understand about 30% of the words…
KELLY’S TAN & NAIL BAR IS GREAT AND IS JUST WHAT SANDY NEEDED. ITS A GREAT PLACE TO BE PAMPERED IN AM CLEAN AND FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT. LET YOUR HAIR DOWN!!
I don’t have much hair to let down, but hooray if people enjoy it. I will be annoyed, however, if the Really Useful Shop, which was really useful, becomes another haidresser. Surely a decent fruit and veg shop would help all our health, complexions, and inner well-being much more.
