The Sunday Telegraph has said that Sandy is plain as plain can be, an old Bedfordshire village that acquired a station then sponged up overspilling Londoners into its large council estates and yellow brick streets
. The Mayor of Sandy vigorously defended the place: I think it is harsh. We all recognise that it could be improved and that’s part of what we are trying to do with the town centre enhancement
(via Bedford Today). Beeston, on the other hand, comes in for some praise, but as kyrogenix assures me that Eddie “the Eagle” Edwards hailed from there (presumably he practised down the Sandy Pinnacle), the place has a lot to live up to.
