Nick Barlow reports how the new rail franchise for East Anglia decided to call itself One Railway, or rather ‘one’ with the single quotes and lower case o. This is all very well (it’s not: it’s just wrong) until you try to make an announcement for a train: The 1620 ‘one’ service to Peterborough will leave from Platform 6
. Is that 1620 or 1621? Apparently they no longer use the name in announcements.
I notice also that since the West Anglian section of WAGN was broken away, the announcers at King’s Cross now use only the initials rather than West Anglia Great Northern, both of which are rather a mouthful.
