French ban mobile phones from cinemas

The BBC reports that the National Federation of French Cinemas is jamming phones in French cinemas and is being supported by the French government to do so. An excellent idea, which I know has been considered for libraries. We couldn’t do it in our library because there are doctors with bleepers, which is a shame. I suppose it can’t be done on trains because it would interfere with communications equipment used by the driver and such like. Double shame. Still, together with the legislative ban in New York, things are going the right way.
